extraction
There are 4 main methods for extracting the oils :
By hydraulic press with cotton disks
dried
fruits (almonds, hazelnuts, nuts, …) are ground and
put in cotton disks and cold pressed to extract the oil. This
technique gives a virgin oil (cold pressing).
By mechanic press (expeller)
the seeds are “triturated” in
an endless screw that turns slowly in a bar cage which exit is
reduced by a cone that produces the pressing and the heating of
the seeds.
By solvent extraction (especially hexane)
the
solvent is used to remove the fat from the ground seeds. The oil
is further obtained by eliminating the solvent with a distillation
This is a commonly used technique for the edible oils.
By centrifugation for the oleaginous fruits
the
oil is separated from the fruits pulp by centrifugation.
